Gombe Stream National Park.
Gombe Stream and Mahale Mountains National Park famously known as home of Chimpanzees in Western Tanzania Tourist circuit close to lake Tanganyika
Gombe is the smallest of Tanzania's national parks: a fragile strip of chimpanzee habitat straddling the steep slopes and river valleys that hem in the sandy northern shore of Lake Tanganyika. Its chimpanzees – habituated to human visitors – were made famous by the pioneering work of Jane Goodall, who in 1960 founded a behavioral research program that now stands as the longest-running study of its kind in the world. The matriarch Fifi, the last surviving member of the original community, only three-years old when Goodall first set foot in Gombe, is still regularly seen by visitors

Chimpanzees share about 98% of their genes with humans, and no scientific expertise is required to distinguish between the individual repertoires of pants, hoots and screams that define the celebrities, the powerbrokers, and the supporting characters. Perhaps you will see a flicker of understanding when you look into a chimp's eyes, assessing you in return - a look of apparent recognition across the narrowest of species barriers.
The most visible of Gombe’s other mammals are also primates. A troop of beachcomber olive baboons, under study since the 1960s, is exceptionally habituated, while red-tailed and red colobus monkeys - the latter regularly hunted by chimps – stick to the forest canopy. The park’s 200-odd bird species range from the iconic fish eagle to the jewel-like Peter’s twin spots that hop tamely around the visitors’ centre.
The Mahale Chimpanzee Safari I takes Kilimanjaro Travel guests to one of the pristine parts of Eastern Africa, to view Chimpanzees in their natural habitat (not in a sanctuary or a zoo) under the assistance of experienced guides and trackers. We named this safari program "Mahale Chimpanzee Safari I" because guests visit the Mahale Mountains National Park, one of the two habitats home to Chimpanzees in Tanzania. This program is highly discerning and enjoyed by guests who appreciate unique experiences. Because of the travel times and distance, a full 3 day stay in the park is recommended. The location of Nkungwe Luxury Camp and Mahale Mountains National Park is situated perfectly by Lake Tanganyika, world's second deepest lake. The lake is cushioned by white sandy shoreline, which serves as a superb relaxation and beach vacationing experiences enjoyed in utmost privacy.

The Jane Goodall Institute for Wildlife Research, Education and Conservation, a tax-exempt/non-profit, was founded in California in 1977 by Jane Goodall and Genevieve, Princess di San Faustino. Initially, day-to-day operation of the Institute was handled by board members and other volunteers working out of their homes. In the early 1980s JGI moved to the San Francisco offices of the California Academy of Sciences, where it functioned essentially as a USA/Africa "communication link" and as a repository for files.
To keep pace with Jane's increased public visibility, professional status, and interests, the Institute office soon moved to the area Jane always thought it should be: Washington, DC. The JGI-USA staff is fortunate to have a steady stream of volunteers and interns enthusiastically and capably assisting.
